Chanson vendredi

This week, grades 4/5, 6, and 7/8 listened to Mercy, France's entry for this year's Eurovision song contest, and read an article about its origins. 

Grade 3/4 worked on word recognition with Tourne, tourne petit moulin and also listened to Mercy.

Grade 1/2 and 2/3 discussed where in the world people speak French (La Francophonie), different accents or speech patterns in French and English, and listened to two versions of "Let it go" from the movie Frozen in two varieties of French.

Group Novel study

Grades 4/5 and 6 are beginning a group novel study based on L'ecole des parents by Gilles Tibo. (Summary here). Students will be creating personal dictionaries, completing reading response activities, and creating their own courses for a 'school for parents'.

Chanson vendredi

Today's songs are Si jamais j'oublie, by Zaz, and Une souris verte, a traditional song.

Grades 4-8 will listen to Zaz and complete the following: Worksheet

Grade 1/2, and 2/3 will discuss familiar words and sounds.

Grade 3/4 will work on figuring out unfamiliar words and illustrate some phrases based on the song.

Prepositions- Cities and countires

Grade 7/8 students will begin a short unit next week, learning which prepositions to use and how, when speaking and writing about going to and leaving countries and cities.

Research Unit

Finishing their restaurant project, students in grades 4/5 and 6 will soon begin a research unit. Students will learn how to accurately use French-English dictionaries (online and physical), about issues caused by using translation software, and how to use various tools to find out how to conjugate verbs.

Les formes- Shapes Unit

Grades 1-3, finishing their animal books, will begin learning about shapes in French next , and will integrate prior knowledge (eg. colours).

Chanson vendredi

The first song of the new year for grades 4-8 is "Il y a tant à faire" by Daniel Bélanger

Worksheet

Grades 1/2, 2/3, and 3/4 will listen to "Ah les crocodiles" (traditional). Grades 1/2 and 2/3 will discuss which sounds they heard most often in the song, and grade 3/4 will be asked to identify familiar words and puzzle out new ones.

New Unit- Winter

Grade 3/4 students, finishing their family unit, are moving on to a unit about winter. We discussed what we already know and what we want to learn yesterday.

We will be watching the ONF/ NFB animation of Le Chandail de Hockey by Roch Carrier, as well as reading the original story, and working through that story for the next week or so.
